Where your money goes
Most people at some point of their life will look after a loved one who is disabled, ill or frail. It may be you or one of your family members, your friends or your colleagues. Together there are six million carers in the UK making a contribution to society valued at £87 billion.
Every day 6,000 people begin caring. It can come as a shock to find out just how little support is available when you are up half the night putting someone with dementia back to bed, struggling to find alternative care so you can get to work or lifting your husband with mobility problems out of a chair. Not surprisingly caring can take its toll on your health, finances and work and leave you feeling isolated.
Here at Carers UK we believe that nobody should have to take this journey alone. Our advice service makes sure carers get the help they are entitled to. Our branch volunteers have first hand knowldege of caring themselves and can break the isolation felt by many carers by offering support. We want a better future for carers and campaign for the changes that will improve their lives.
Our CarersLine has made life easier for Christine who has cared for her disabled son for over 30 years, following a road accident as a child. We made sure she got the help she was entitled to such as respite breaks and care at home, taking the strain off her shoulders. While she was on the phone we checked her benefits and she is now an extra £30 a week better off.
Your support will mean we can help more carers like Christine.
Please help us be there for you when you become a carer.
