The H1N1 vaccination programme is to start mid-October. It will be given in two doses some three weeks apart. Frontline workers in health and social care settings will be among the first to be vaccinated along with those in priority group one.
Groups will be done in following order:
- People in seasonal flu at risk groups aged 6m-65y (along with frontline workers in health and social care).
- All pregnant women (subject to licensing).
- Household contacts of people with compromised immune systems.
- People aged 65+ in seasonal flu at risk groups (otherwise healthy 65+ are not included as they appear to have some immunity).
Organisations supporting carers and disabled people are keen that carers should also be a priority group but they are not noted specifically.
We understand carers will not be prioritised for vaccination unless they too fall into one of the categories above. Isobel Allan is one of Carers Scotland's committee members and is a carer. She has kindly written the article below to share some tips with other carers for planning during the pandemic.
Isobel makes references to the guidance from NHS Direct in England as it appears it is the only official guidance being given to carers.

A View by Isobel Allan MBE, Mother & Carer. Isobel writes in this article:
